Visit to the animal shelter

We arrived at the shelter around 1 o'clock. Little did we know that there was going to be a waiting period (one family waited 90 minutes). There were 6 ahead of us. We wandered around to see what pups were available. Of course the puppies (2 month olds) were taken in a split second!

These were our choices:
  • Trevor: An 11 month border collie. Active and fully of energy.
  • Linus: 2 month old dachshund, black and tan. There were 2 people already looking at him.
  • Next to Linus was another 2 month old but a dachshund mix, he looked shy and was very quiet. And this chihuahua mix, Crissy (1 year old).
I gave my choices of which dogs we wanted to see. They said they would call me when the people before me has their turn. So we went to Borders book store and Petco. Two hours passed and no phone call, we drove back. I checked with the front desk and there were 3 others ahead of us. Linus was adopted. Trevor and Crissy were still available.

I walked around again as we waited and "Forrest" (2 month old dachshund mix) caught my attention. Before he was shy and just stayed in his bed. This time he noticed me and responded to my voice. I was interested in meeting him.

It was close to 5 o'clock and they called us. We filled out an adoption form and went was interviewed to make sure that we had the right puppy/dog for us. Trevor was not compatible with us because his papers said there had to be another dog in the household, which we did not have. Crissy was older, shy and timid with people. But we still wanted to meet Crissy.

Then there was "Forrest", he is a dachshund mixed with terrier. Once we walked in his room, he was playful and energetic. He responded to us and immediately there was a connection. We both fell in love with him.

Talk of getting a puppy

I know it has been 8 months since I last posted. During that time, we had to prepare for puppy.

3 years ago we bought a cage big enough for two puppies for half price. Our fence needed to be replaced. There were a few boards missing, which is not good because we don't want the puppy to escape and also we needed 1 gate on one side and the other did not have one. So we have a new fence and closures on each end.

I started searching for a puppy. We want a mutt, no offense to pure breeds and from a rescue shelter. It would be nice to find a puppy but we are open to a dog that is older. 4 months to 6 months can be acceptable, it really depends on the dog's temper and behavior.
